How to Add an Email Account in Outlook 2010

Before adding a new email account in Outlook 2010, please follow the steps appropriate for your situation:

A - Select this if you are setting up your first email account in Outlook 2010 on this machine
B - Select this if you are setting up a subsequent email account in Outlook 2010 on this machine


Outlook for the first time

If this is the first time you are using Outlook 2010 on this machine, following the following two steps:

Step iA: Open Outlook

Open Microsoft Outlook 2010. You should be greeted with a screen as follows. Select the "Next" button.

Step iiA: Configure Email Account

The option "Yes" on this screen should remain selected. Select the "Next" button.

Click here to continue.


A subsequent email account

If you already have at least one email account configured in Outlook 2010, follow the following two steps:

Step iB: Open Outlook

Open Microsoft Outlook 2010. On the main screen, select the "File" tab.

Step iiB: Add Account

Select the "Add Account" button to create a new email account.


Adding an email account

Step 1: Enter Account Information

Enter your full name into the field labelled "Your Name". Enter your email address in the field below. Your email address will be your WatIAM followed by "@uwaterloo.ca" as shown. Then enter your password in the "Password" field, and re-enter your password in the "Retype Password" field. When finished, select the "Next" button.

Step 2: Configure Server Settings

Outlook will now attempt to configure the server settings. This attempt should fail, and you will be required to enter in additional information.

Step 3: Use Another Account

Select the "Use another account" option.

Step 4: Enter Credentials

Enter in your email user name as your WatIAM ID with the domain "nexus\" before it. Do not include "@uwaterloo.ca" in this user name. Include your WatIAM password in the "Password" field. Select the "OK" button when finished.


Step 5: Reconfigure Server Settings

Outlook will now reconfigure the server settings. This time it should have the information necessary to do so. Once everything completes, select the "Finish" button.

Step 6: Open Inbox

Your inbox should automatically open.

Your email account has been configured with Microsoft Outlook 2010.
